Fresh Sheet: August 14, 2019

This week's Fresh Sheet is up and it is a big week! Join us for our Local Food Week Celebration and our 2nd Annual Bee Day!

Join us WEDNESDAY in the Terwillegar Recreation Center

in Parking Lot E from 4 to 7:30pm

This is a big week at the market! We have an Artisan Alley Day lined up, PLUS our 2nd Annual Bee Day and our Alberta Local Food Week celebration, with lots of fun stuff planned for the kids!

Join us here on the Fresh Sheet every Tuesday to see what's fresh and happening at your favourite farmers' market! Remember, please leave Fido at home- we are a pet-free market (service animals excluded)

The Edmonton & Area Last Trust will be in our Community Tent this week, as part of our Bee Day. Alberta is home to over 300 species of bees, most of which are solitary bees. Solitary bees are not aggressive, unlike other types of social bees that swarm and live in colonies. Solitary bees are also very efficient pollinators of the plants that we eat for food. However, pollinators are declining for a number of reasons, including: habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change. The Edmonton and Area Land Trust’s natural areas in the countryside around Edmonton are homes to pollinators for the surrounding agricultural lands. However, we can all do our help to help urban pollinators. Stop by to learn how you can help! Additionally we will have the John Janzen Nature Centre on site, with information on their programs and on bees. Dustin Bajer, a well-known local beekeeper, will also be at the market. Our Young Vendors Program, which gives 13 to 17 year olds a chance to sell their homemade products, continues this year . This week we are hosting Shake It Off Designs . This company sells bracelets created by Evan, a special young man with Tourette Syndrome. A portion of all of his sales go to the Tourette Canada. We have also started a take-a-bag, leave-a-bag program in 2019. Please bring your clean plastic or reusable bags to donate, or feel free to grab one if you left yours at home.
