Vendor Spotlight: Multi-cultural Cuisine

Global dishes at your local market

With summer coming to a close, now is a great time to experiment and sample the many diverse cultural vendors available every week at the market! This wide variety of food brings a new culinary experience to the market, as foods range from fresh Indian cuisine to classic Greek dips. These prepared food vendors are a favourite place for market-goers to bring home dinner or eat dishes at the market that they're unable to create themselves. From sweet to spicy these heritage food offer a unique taste to every person who visits the market. Popular vendors include Jamaican Chefmon, Melodi's Kitchen, Mini Kitchen, O’Delight, Thai Sab Food Co and Theo's Greek Kouzina.

We asked a handful of our vendors serving national or cultural dishes what their favourite products were, and here's what we found:

Jamaican Chefmon sells a large range of sauces and marinades, but their the top seller is their Jamaican jerk marinade.

Melodi’s Kitchen is a Turkish vendor with many ready to eat pre-made items such as stuffed eggplant and baklava, and they sell out of their simit (a bread with sesame seeds on top) almost every week!

Another popular Indian and Thai food vendor is Mini Kitchen, and their favourite dish right now is their roasted coconut chicken.

O’Delight is a fabulous Moroccan vendor whose most popular dish is tagine, which is a slow-cooked savoury stew made with meats, vegetables, fruits, and a variety of spices. Yum!

Thai Sab Food Co. offers a wide variety of authentic foods with her favorite dish being the shrimp salad rolls, which are great on a hot day for a no-cooking dinner.

Louie from Theo’s Greek Kouzina told us his favourite dishes are the ever-popular tzatziki and new spanakopita. He is always sampling at market, so swing by his stall next week to try them for yourself!
