Fresh fall vegetables available at your local farmers market

As the weather cools and harvest season approaches, now is the perfect time to discover the wide variety of Autumn specific vegetables available at the farmers market. Including; Riverbend Gardens, Latuca, Dargatz Family Farm, Holden Colony and s4 Greenhouses.

One of the most diverse vegetables available at the market is squash. This specific family of vegetable comes in multiple colours shapes and sizes, ideal for soups or salads or side dishes. Dargatz Family Farm, Holden Colony, Riverbend Gardens and Latuca all offer a wide variety of squash in all shapes and sizes available by weight.

Another market favourite is the vibrantly coloured cauliflower available at Riverbend Gardens and Dargatz Family Farm throughout the rest of the market season. These bold veggies are sure to spice up any salad or dish in need of a crunch. Instead of eating cauliflower plain try steaming it like broccoli for a fresh and healthy side to dinner.

Whether they are being cooked for dinner or eaten as a snack after school, fresh organic market carrots are an amazing vegetable full of flavour and nutrients for any meal. Carrots also provide a rich supply of 7 different nutrients including vitamin A and C.  Latuca, Riverbend and Holden Colony all sell numerous carrots every week.

Other vegetables that ripen in the fall are; brussel sprouts, corn on the cob, potatoes and pumpkins. Be sure to check with our vegetable vendors to see what veggies they have on sale that week. Also remember to check the Fresh Sheet which comes out every Tuesday and includes a comprehensive list of all vendors attending the market that week. The final market of the season is October 5, 2016.
